New Zealanders are returning to their old drinking habits now that the country has eased its lockdown restrictions. Two-thirds of adults are drinking at their usual (pre-lockdown) levels, according to a recent survey.

Everyone at Te Hiringa Hauora is working hard to ensure our health promotion operations continue amid the unprecedented challenges of the current COVID-19 situation. HPA's Chief Executive takes up new opportunity with Heart Foundation

The Health Promotion Agency/Te Hiringa Hauora’s (HPA) Chief Executive Clive Nelson is leaving to take up a new position as Chief Executive of the Heart Foundation. Mr Nelson has been head of HPA since its inception in 2012. Announcing his resignation today, Mr Nelson said it was a privilege to shape and lead the talented team at the HPA over the last seven years.

HPA named Advertiser of the Year at Beacon Awards

The Health Promotion Agency/Te Hiringa Hauora (HPA) has been named Advertiser of the Year at last week's Beacon Awards. The award is based on the success of HPA's Pre-Testie Bestie alcohol and pregnancy behaviour change initiative, which took out four gold medals at the award ceremony in Auckland.

Drinking cultures of Rainbow New Zealanders

This qualitative research project investigated social, cultural and political influences on alcohol consumption among Rainbow New Zealanders. The project had a particular focus on how practices common in everyday culture and community norms and expectations impact on drinking.

Energy labelling for alcoholic beverages in New Zealand

This research reports on the impact of different energy (kilojoules/calories) labels on consumers’ likelihood of buying and drinking alcoholic beverages.

New Zealand Smoking Monitor 2017/18 Annual Report

The Ministry of Health funds the Health Promotion Agency (HPA) to conduct the New Zealand Smoking Monitor (NZSM), which is a continuous fortnightly survey of current and ex-smokers. The NZSM is designed to provide up-to-date data on key tobacco control indicators.
