Set up and use a shower stool
How to set up and use a shower stool at home.
What a shower stool is
A shower stool is a tool that helps you shower safely.
Do not use a shower stool in a bath or shub.
Most shower stools have a maximum weight capacity. Your occupational therapist will make sure you get a stool that is right for you.
Using a shower stool
1
Put the shower stool in the shower
Use a non-slip mat if the shower floor is slippery.

2
Use 2 hands when sitting and standing
Put your hands on the frame handles when sitting and standing so the stool does not tip.
3
Make sure your feet are flat on the floor
Your hips should also be above your knees.
Adjust the height of the shower stool
1
Push in the metal buttons on the leg
Set legs at a height for the person using the shower stool.

2
Click the buttons into the correct holes
Make sure the:
- buttons are completely popped out
- shower stool is level.
One leg has extra holes — this is used to stabilise the stool on uneven surfaces.
