About Ka Ora
Ka Ora is an after-hours service helping to support the health of people in rural communities. The service is open from:
- 5pm to 8am during weekdays
- 24 hours during weekends and on public holidays.
When you call Ka Ora you will speak to a kaiāwhina (support person) or a nurse, who will ask you some questions to assess your health needs. They can connect you with a doctor or nurse practitioner depending on your needs. If you prefer, you can choose to book an appointment for a later time.
You do not need to be enrolled with a healthcare provider to use this service.
How to use the service
You can:
- call Ka Ora on 0800 252 672 (0800 2 KA ORA) any time during opening hours to speak to a nurse or doctor
- book an appointment online (external link) from 5pm to 10pm weekdays and 8am to 10pm weekends and public holidays.
If you need an urgent appointment and it is after 10pm, call 0800 252 672 (0800 KA ORA).
Appointment charges
There is no charge:
- to speak to a kaiawhina (support person) or nurse
- for tamariki aged under 14 years.
There is a charge of $19.50 for appointments with a doctor or nurse practitioner for:
- people over 65 years old
- anyone with a Community Services Card.
