On 1 July 2022 Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand and Te Aka Whai Ora – Māori Health Authority became Aotearoa’s new national health authorities.
Te Hiringa Hauora as an entity was disestablished and became part of Te Whatu Ora, with all our staff and functions transferring.
Within Te Whatu Ora we are now part of the National Public Health Service. We will be a shared service between Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora. All our programmes of work and our role as an evidence-based health promotion organisation continue.
The interim director of health promotion within Te Whatu Ora is Keith Newton. Te Hiringa Hauora chief executive Tane Cassidy finished on 30 June.
Staff continue to be based at our same premises in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch, as well as some staff working remotely, and our email addresses remain unchanged.
You will continue to see the name Te Hiringa Hauora used on our website and campaigns for some time as we transition. Although there will no longer be a standalone organisation known as Te Hiringa Hauora, we will continue to hold the essence of our name, which means the unrelenting pursuit of wellbeing.
Health New Zealand and the Māori Health Authority have their own governance structures, therefore the Te Hiringa Hauora Board ceased to operate on 30 June 2022.
Health New Zealand and the Māori Health Authority are committed to delivering a health system that is simpler and more coordinated, allowing for better and more consistent care to support all New Zealanders to live longer and have the best possible quality of life.
