We lead, deliver and support a range of health promotion programmes and initiatives in Aotearoa. Learn more about our work.
First 1,000 Days
The first 1,000 days of a child’s life lay the foundations for their entire future. The clock starts at conception and runs to the child’s second birthday.
We provide information, advice, research and resources to help prevent and reduce alcohol-related harm and inspire New Zealanders to make better decisions about drinking alcohol.
We work with the mental health sector to support New Zealanders to experience positive mental health and wellbeing.
By choosing to be smokefree, supporting people to quit, and creating smokefree events, parks and sports grounds, together we can achieve the vision of a Smokefree New Zealand by 2025.
Minimising gambling harm
Our work supports New Zealand communities to prevent and respond to harmful gambling.
We provide advice and resources to education settings to encourage their communities to lead healthier lives. Ensuring the places New Zealanders’ live, work, learn and play are healthy and safe is a core part of our work.
We support workplaces with advice and tools so they can protect and enhance the health and wellbeing of people. Workplaces are an influential setting for public health because of the impact work has on health and that health has on work.
Nutrition and physical activity
Good nutrition, regular physical activity, adequate sleep, and a healthy body size are important for maintaining health and wellbeing both now and in the future.
We work with the National Immunisation Programme to provide communications and marketing support for its National Immunisation Programme.
On behalf of the Ministry of Health, we are responsible for the management and strategic direction of the Health Education catalogue of resources (HealthEd). HealthEd (healthed.govt.nz) is New Zealand’s largest collection of prevention-focused public health information resources. It is available for health professionals and the public to access free of charge.
