Less drinking, less harm

In June 2022, Te Whatu Ora | Health Promotion, along with nib foundation, co-funded University of Otago, Wellington (UOW) researchers to undertake a research and advocacy project titled 'Understanding and addressing adolescent alcohol harm'.

Using the data from the Youth2000 survey series, this study found that alcohol use declined substantially on all indicators (lifetime, current, past month, and weekly alcohol use; past month binge drinking; typical consumption of 10 + drinks/session), with declines concentrated in the 2007–2012 period.
