1 Jun 2011

This Fact Sheet cover the results of 2010 Health and Lifestyles Survey (HLS) focusing on the results around local communities’ concerns with gambling.

The Health Sponsorship Council’s (HSC’s) HLS provides information about New Zealanders’ knowledge of who regulates Electronic Gambling Machines (EGMs). The survey also indicates New Zealanders’ knowledge of, and participation in, activities to reduce the harms that can be brought about by problem gambling.

Note: The term ‘gamblers’, as used here, refers to anyone who has bet any money, bought tickets or paid to do any activities for money or prizes in the past 12 months. More than 80% of New Zealanders fit this definition.
