The urology service for Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Hawke's Bay provides surgery of the urinary tract system in adults and infants, male and female. We also provide treatment for some urinary tract diseases.

Services we provide

The urology service focuses on surgery of the urinary tract system. We also treat some aspects of the male reproductive organs, but do not usually perform vasectomy. We see patients from adults to infants, male and female.

You may be referred to a specialist in urology at the hospital if you have a problem with your:

  • kidneys
  • adrenal glands
  • ureters 
  • bladder
  • urethra
  • male reproductive organs including the prostate, testicles or penis.

The service provides investigations and management of medical (non-surgical) conditions such as recurrent urinary tract infections. Females may be referred to our service for help with problems of incontinence and bladder function.

We also provide surgical management of conditions such as:

  • kidney, bladder, testes or prostate cancer
  • urinary tract stones
  • trauma injury
  • incontinence (urinary or wee)
  • congenital (birth) abnormalities.

For an appointment with the urology service you need to be referred by your healthcare provider, a hospital specialist in the emergency department or another specialist doctor.
