Services we provide
The team provides the following types of health care, depending on patient needs:
- intensive care (for patients needing to be on a ventilator or require constant observation)
- coronary care (for patients with heart problems)
- high-dependency medical care (for patients requiring non-invasive ventilation or high care needs)
- surgical care (for major post-operative patients).
The unit is co-located with the hospital’s Emergency Department, and Children's and Maternity wards to provide patients with a smooth transition between departments when necessary.
The unit has 6 beds and 6 telemetry units, as well as a large whānau room with kitchen facilities and a TV.
Some unit nurses are also part of our flight team, who fly angiography patients to Wellington and other patients to specialist hospitals where required.
