The Radiology team is located at:
- Level 1 Ward and Administration Block
- 100 Heads Road

X-ray GP and OPD patients
- 8am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday
X-ray ED and WAM patients
- 8am to 9pm, Monday to Friday
- 10:30am to 6pm, Saturday and Sunday
CT scans
- 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
MRI scans
- 8am to 4pm, Monday and Friday
- 7am to 9pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Ultrasounds
- 8am to 4pm, every day

Services we provide
Our radiology department is equipped with:
- x-ray room in the main department and one in the emergency department
- fluroscopy
- Computed Tomography (CT)
- general ultrasound rooms (note: muscular skeletal ultrasound, such as shoulders, elbows and knees, cannot be performed at Whanganui)
- echocardiography ultrasound room
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Image Intensifier (II) for use in theatre
- mobile x-ray machines for critically ill patients.
All CT, MRI and ultrasound patients are sent out appointment times. As the schedule is tight:
- arrive at the time indicated on your appointment letter. If you arrive late your appointment may need to be re-booked
- contact us as soon as possible if you are unable to attend your appointment, otherwise you will be removed from the waiting list and your referral sent back to your doctor.
Emergency cases need to take precedence so please be aware you may be required to wait a little longer.
Off-site services (certain criteria apply):
- Mammography – Breastscreen Aotearoa, Palmerston North
- Bone Densitometry – Cortex Medical Imaging, Whanganui.

Registered health professionals can refer you to Radiology Services. These including your general practitioner, nurse practitioner, physiotherapists, dentists, podiatrists, chiropractors and medical specialists.
