The Tairāwhiti diabetes service provides assessment, education and management plans for people with type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes (diabetes in pregnancy).

We also run outpatient clinics and do community appointments at: 

  • general practices
  • residential care homes
  • rural hospitals
  • your home.

We can also do telehealth appointments.


Services we provide

The diabetes service provides:

  • assessment
  • treatment, education and management plans
  • medication prescription and review
  • diet education and review
  • foot assessments and wound management
  • referrals for specialist treatment when required
  • education for whānau and organisations in the community.

Eye screening for people with diabetes is provided by OPSM Gisborne on referral from your healthcare provider, doctor or midwife.
