District nursing service — Tairāwhiti

Tairāwhiti district nurses provide care to people who live in Gisborne city. Depending on your needs this care can be delivered in your home, at school, in your workplace, or in a clinic setting.

To reach the District Nursing Community and Clinic team:

Our hours for community visits are:

  • Monday to Sunday (including public holidays), 8am to 4pm

Our hours for clinics are by appointment:

  • Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.

We require 24 hours' notice to cancel any scheduled appointment.


Where to find us

District nursing care is provided either in your home or from our clinic.

If you are coming to our clinic:

  • enter through the Gate 1 Gisborne Hospital entrance
  • drive past the emergency department and the hospital main entrance around to the back of the hospital
  • the district nursing clinic is in a block on your left.

If the nurse is visiting you at home, it is your responsibility to ensure safe access to the property.

  • Make sure any dogs are tied up.
  • Provide a smoke-free environment during the visit.
  • Keep other house pets away.
  • Let us know if you have COVID or other potentially infectious illness.

A whānau member is welcome to attend all appointments with you.

Access to this service is by referral from your healthcare provider or by a Gisborne Hospital medical professional.
