Services we provide

  • Care for unwell or premature pēpi born in Tairāwhiti after 32 weeks of pregnancy.
  • Transfer to Waikato neonatal intensive care unit for pēpi needing specialist services and care not provided in Tairāwhiti.
  • Ongoing care for pēpi returning from a larger centre (once stable).
  • Specialist paediatricians provide antenatal consultation and attend the birth for women with specific risk factors (for example, twin pregnancies).
  • Assessment of babies in the hospitals' postnatal wards.
  • Follow-up clinics after discharge, particularly for babies born prematurely or with other growth or development problems.
